Revs Check QLD

Conducting a REVs check in QLD

Prior to 2012, A REV (Register of Encumbered Vehicles) search was performed against the Register of Encumbered Vehicles database to query a vehicle registered in the state of Queensland (QLD). Each state in Australia would hold their own state registers, and the REV database was also known as the Vehicle Security Registers (VSR) in other states such as Victoria and South Australia.

A REV search on the Queensland REV database required either a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), Chassis Number or Engine Number, and would return information on the vehicle being queried relating to encumbrances, i.e. claims on the vehicle such as a loan and other financial liens. Additionally, the Register of Encumbered Vehicles could also notify the potential buyer if the vehicle had been declared stolen and reported to the police. The REVs extract covered most Australian states, excluding Tasmania and Western Australia, where no legislative protection is provided by REVs searches.

In January 2012, the Queensland Register of Encumbered Vehicles database was migrated to the Personal Property Securities Register or PPSR for short. All previous state-based REVS and VSR databases were migrated and consolidated into the national PPS Registry, and performing a REVs (or PPSR) search now covers motor vehicles across the whole of Australia.

Does A REVs check provide a written-off check against the Written-Off Vehicle Registry (WOVR)?

In Queensland, a written-off vehicle would mean that the vehicle had been registered on the Written-Off Vehicle Register (WOVR), and classified as either a Statutory write-off (too badly damaged to be repaired), or a Repairable write-off (can be registered if repaired and subsequently passes a safety inspection at a Queensland Inspection Services site, which is part of the national theft reduction initiative to ensure that the identity of repaired written-off vehicles is legitimate. In Queensland, the Queensland Inspection Services centres are located in Brisbane, Bundaberg, Cairns, Gold Coast, Mackay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville.
